At Least 43 People Died in a Fire Broke in Dhaka

A fire broke ravaged seven-story building in elite neighbourhood of Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital, on Thursday, killing at least 43 people and injuring several others.

The fire started in a popular restaurant before quickly spreading to the top stories of the building.

Fire authorities stated that the blaze ignited around 9:50 pm local time, ensnaring multiple individuals within the Building.

It required over two hours to extinguish and gain control over the flames. Approximately 75 people were saved from the burning building.

According to the country’s health authorities, more than 43 people died as a result of the fire.

Forty other people were injured and are currently being treated at the city’s main burn hospital. The severity of the injuries varied from burns to smoke inhalation.

According to eyewitnesses, several people tried to flee the fire, with some jumping from upper floors to dodge the flames. Several others were left stuck on the rooftop, crying for help as the fire burned below.

The building housed eateries, as well as apparel and mobile phone stores. As the fire spread fast throughout the building, panic and pandemonium broke out among those trapped within.

Occurrences of fires in apartment buildings and factory complexes are frequent in Bangladesh due to lenient enforcement of safety regulations.

In July 2021, a fire broke out at a food processing factory, killing numerous people.

The present financial loss is unknown. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi officials launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
