Azhar Mahmood Candidate for Assistant Coach of National Team

Azhar Mahmood likely to become the assistant coach of national team.

Former Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has emerged as a strong contender to become the assistant coach of the national team.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint separate head coaches to oversee the red ball and white ball formats. In this regard, two days ago, PCB published an advertisement for assistant coach.

Applications should be submitted by April 20 for consideration, while applications for head coaches should be submitted by April 15, the advertisement said.

Azhar Mehmood, a former cricketer, is a strong contender to be the assistant coach for the red ball and white ball versions. Azhar Mehmood is the bowling coach of Islamabad United, the team that secured the ninth position in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The PCB will officially announce the assistant coaches only after April 20, and the announcements of the head coaches are expected after April 15.

It may be recalled that the PCB has settled with Jason Gillespie for the red ball and Gary Kirsten for the white ball head coach.
