Pakistan Completes Evacuation Operation In Sudan

Pak completes successful evacuation of citizens from war-torn Sudan.

Pakistan has finished Evacuation Operation its residents from Sudan, where hundreds have died in continuous intense fighting between the paramilitary forces and the army of the African nation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) tweeted its affirmation.

“By Allah’s grace and tireless efforts of our embassy in Khartoum led by Amb Regi, supported by China and Saudi Arabia and our teams in Jeddah and Islamabad, we have successfully and safely evacuated over 1000 Pakistanis out of Sudan,” the tweet stated. With this, our evacuation efforts from Sudan have come to a conclusion.

According to sources, 5 special flights operated by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on their way to Jeddah have taken 636 citizens back to their home countries and have so far landed at Karachi International Airport.

The number of Pakistanis who have been repatriated now stands at 729 thanks to another Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight that brought 93 more citizens to Islamabad.

In contrast to other nations, the government developed the evacuation policy to repatriate regular citizens before diplomats.

Amir Muqam had already stated that the administration would keep working until all Pakistanis had returned from Sudan.

Government Expects Inflation to Rise Further

Inflation may peak at 38% in May, per Ministry of Finance’s update.

The government says that much of the high inflation is expected to be due to rising food and energy prices.

The ministry attributed the increase in overall prices to rupee depreciation and increase in administrative costs.

The government has reconstituted a National Price Monitoring Committee headed by the Minister of Planning to monitor prices along with Chief Secretaries of the provinces.

However, the group has only met a few times in the past 12 months. In addition, the Ministry’s assessment indicated that Pakistan’s economy is facing serious challenges, such as high inflation and weak economic growth.

However, some positive indicators are emerging due to the government’s stabilization policies, such as a surplus in the current account of the balance of payments.

The ministry expects the completion of the IMF program to attract more capital inflows, stabilize the exchange rate and reduce inflationary pressures.
