Controversy A R Chennai concert ‘Marakkuma Nenjam’ due to management.
Over 45,000 people showed up for the concert. An insider’s account of what went wrong is provided here.
What went wrong?
The event, which was held on September 10 in Chennai Adityaram Palace City, was marred by turmoil outside the venue due to long lines, gridlock, and improper management of ticket holders.
Numerous attendees with legal tickets were upset and agitated, and some got into arguments with the police and ACTC Events, the event’s organizers.
Confusion within the arena was only exacerbated by the absence of an organizer crew to direct attendees to the designated sections based on their tickets.
Despite being one of India’s most popular productions, Marakkuma Nenjam became a comedy of errors due to overselling tickets and poor crowd control.
Rahman Stance
In an interview with the Indian media after the concert, Rahman admitted that he was blissfully unaware of the chaos outside.
Even more, he expressed his astonishment at the “tsunami of people and love” that his concert garnered and promised to “surprise fans with something soon,” which we hope entails a tip on event planning. He was concerned about the safety of everyone, especially women and children, in the midst of the mayhem.
AR Rahman added that although the organizers had put up about 46,000 chairs, some of them remained vacant, which led the authorities to mistakenly believe the site was packed and shut the gates after the event had started.
Promise of refunds
The well-known performer has additionally pledged to reimburse ticket buyers who couldn’t attend the concert for their money.
