SMS turns 30; Google announces end-to-end encryption in Messages app.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of SMS, Google also made fun of Apple for not embracing RCS. Except for Apple, “all major mobile carriers and manufacturers have implemented RCS,” it was stated. Because Apple still uses SMS to interact with users of Android smartphones, its messaging practices are still stuck in the 1990s.

End-to-end encryption, however, is only accessible to group chat users who have signed up for the beta programmed. Therefore, you must participate in the beta programmed in order to test it.

The GetTheMessage campaign, which urged Apple to use RCS, was started by the Mountain View-based search engine business a few months ago. The Cupertino-based tech company has been adamant about its stance, with CEO Tim Cook saying that he would prefer to switch Android users over to iPhones.

Just get an iPhone for your mother, he advised. The outcome of the “green vs. blue bubble” debate remains to be seen.

How the “green vs. blue bubble” issue plays out and how long it takes Apple to change its mind and implement RCS are still up in the air.

End-to-end encryption for Google Messages is currently only accessible in the beta version, so it will be some time before it becomes available to the general public. Emoji reactions for RCS will likely debut concurrently.
