LHC upholds the rejections of the PTI’s Imran Khan nomination papers.
The judgment of the Appellate Tribunal to reject Imran Khan and other party leaders’ nomination papers for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was maintained by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday.
The judgment on the petitions filed challenging the election Appellate Tribunal’s ruling was announced by the LHC.
When the court dismissed Imran’s nomination papers and upheld the decisions of the appeal tribunals, he was essentially disqualified from running in the upcoming general elections.
Imran’s nomination papers were rejected mostly because he was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty in the Toshakhana case. The complaint was filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which claimed Imran had failed to declare some gifts from the government on his tax returns.
Additionally, the PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s plea challenging the rejection of candidates from NA-150, NA-151, and PP-218 was denied by the court. The panel denied the appeals of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Sanam Javed, Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, and other individuals.
The rejection of Sanam Javed’s nomination papers from NA-119, NA-120, and PP-150 was also maintained by the LHC.
Additionally, the appeal against Fawad Chaudhry’s rejection of the NA-60 and NA-61 nomination papers was denied. The suit challenging his wife Hiba Fawad’s nomination papers being denied was also denied by the court.
The judgment to reject Sanam Javed’s nomination papers from NA-119 and NA-120 was also confirmed by the LHC.
