Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi Indicted in Cipher Case

Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi of PTI indicted in cipher case.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the Chairman of the PTI Imran Khan have refuted the crime. Details indicate that at the hearing in Adiala Jail, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain of the Special Court of Official Secrets Act brought the charges.

The PTI chairman’s request to stop the indictment was denied by the court, which stated that because the indictment date was scheduled for today, it will be filed.

The court summoned the witness testimony and postponed the hearing in the cipher case to October 27.

Initially, October 17 was set as the date for charge sheets. However, in response to objections from Tehreek-e-Insaf’s lawyers, who claimed that copies of the challan were not provided, the date of indictment was rescheduled for today.

Strict security protocols were in place outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, and more police officers were called in to coincide with today’s hearing.

It’s important to note that Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Imran Khan are currently in Adiala Jail in connection with this case.

What is the cipher case?

PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan constructed a conspiracy theory against his government, alleging the US’s involvement in the overthrow, based on the communications or ciphers of the Pakistani ambassador to the US. Nonetheless, the National Security Committee meeting refuted the PTI government’s stance on the cipher.

In an audio leak, the former prime minister was heard saying, “Now we only have to play, not to mention the US; just play it as if the date was already written on it.” His former secretary, Azam Khan, retorted, “I was thinking we should hold a meeting over this cipher.”

The Federal probe Agency (FIA) was then given the go-ahead by the federal cabinet to conduct the probe.

During the PTI government, Azam Khan, known for his close relationship with the former prime minister, served as Imran Khan’s principal secretary.

Lt. Gen. Babar Iftikhar, a former Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that they disseminated rumors and incorrect information about the cipher to obtain political advantage.
