Karachi Electric Bus Service May Face Full Shutdown

Karachi Electric Bus Service at risk with abrupt route shutdown.

There are very few high-tech public transportation buses available on the one route where the electric bus is still in service.

The government of Sindh inaugurated these electric buses in June 2023 as part of the People Bus Services project.

One route starts at Tank Chowk, next to Jinnah Avenue, and ends at the Clock Tower. Along the way, it passes by the airport, Sharae Faisal, FTC, Korangi, and Khayaban-e-Ittahad.

On the other hand, the other one leaves from the Malir Cantt checkpost and travels via Safoora Chowk, Moosamyaat, Kamran Chowrangi, Perfume Chowk, Millennium, Dalmia, and Agha Khan Hospital before arriving at M.A. Jinnah Road.

For the buses to obtain a power source, a charging dock is necessary. In Malir Cantt and Bahria Town, two power plants with a combined capacity of forty buses were set up.

Bus service on two routes was reportedly suspended due to the charge stations’ apparent incapacity to provide electricity.

Thousands of passengers, who started their week on these electric buses, were shocked by the news that their anticipated buses were no longer accessible.
