Maryam Nawaz made History by becoming First Woman Chief Minister

Maryam Nawaz created history by becoming first woman Chief Minister.

Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Maryam Nawaz created a new history by becoming the first woman Chief Minister during the tumultuous session of the Punjab Assembly.

Maryam Nawaz is the first woman to be elected Chief Minister of any province of the country. He got 220 votes against his rival Rana Aftab who was among those who walked out of the assembly.

Earlier, the Punjab Assembly meeting for the election of the Chief Minister started amid commotion when members of the opposition Sunni Ittehad Council boycotted the proceedings.

As soon as Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan explained the procedure for selecting the Chief Minister, members of the Sunni Ittehad Council stood up and tried to disrupt the proceedings by chanting slogans and even staged a walkout from the House.

Members of the Sunni Ittehad Council protested that the House was incomplete because it still had unfilled minority and women’s seats.

When Rana Aftab rose up to raise a point of order, the Speaker refused to give him the opportunity. SIC left in protest about this.

Speaker Khan established a committee to engage in negotiations with the demonstrators, who briefly returned to the parliament before leaving once more. Without further ado, the Speaker made the decision to move on.
