Monsoon Rains begin, Islamabad and Lahore Risk Urban Floods

Rain expected nationwide until July 8, with potential for urban flood.

Urban floods could occur in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore as a result of monsoon rains.

From July 4 to 7, intense rain may cause landslides in the prone regions of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Met Office, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are anticipated to infiltrate the country higher regions, and a westerly wave is also predicted to enter those regions.

Additionally, it issued a warning that between July 6 and 8, heavy rain may trigger flash floods in the hill torrent regions of D.G. Khan and surrounding parts of northeast Balochistan.

PMD recommended farmers to plan their activities while taking the weather forecast into consideration.

It encouraged the people to stay in safe areas during dust storms, wind-thunderstorms, and severe rainfall because loose buildings, such as power poles and solar panels, could be damaged.

It urged relevant authorities to stay “alert” and to take the appropriate safety precautions during the projected timeframe.

Forecast for Monsoon Rains

Rain/wind-thundershower (with few heavy falls/ hailstorm) is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh from 3rd (evening/night) to 8th July.

Rain/wind-thundershower with isolated heavy falls is expected in Barkhan, Loralai, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, D.I Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, D.G khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal and Okara from 5-8th July.

Sukkur, Jacobabad Ghotki, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mithi, Chhor, Padidan, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, and Karachi are all anticipated to have rain/wind-thundershowers with sporadic heavy falls on July 7-8.
