PTI leader Khan expected to face contempt charges from the ECP.
The four-member bench of the electoral board, presided over by Sindh member Nisar Durrani, has postponed its indicted after former prime minister Imran Khan failed to appear before the committee.
Along with two other former party leaders, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry, the ECP commenced legal action against him. They were accused of insulting the commission and the chief election commissioner with their comments.
At the hearing today, Khan attorney Shoaib Shaheen sought to the bench to grant his client’s waiver of the requirement to appear. The ECP bench member enquired as to Imran Khan’s availability for the upcoming hearing.
Lawyer requested that the hearing be set for September, but the commission members emphasized that they would already be quite busy by then.
PTI head needed to go to the hospital for a checkup because he had lately been in various courts, the lawyer told the bench.
He would be indicted on August 22 according to the bench, which adjourned the case after hearing the arguments. The bench ruled that the PTI leader must show up for his indictment.
