Taiwan Rocked by 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake

Over 7.4 magnitude earthquake rocks taiwan, destroying the buildings.

Taiwan capital, Taipei, was hit by the biggest earthquake in the country’s 25-year history, causing several buildings to collapse and causing many deaths. Tsunami warnings were issued in Japan and the Philippines after the earthquake.

According to the news agency ‘AFP’, the earthquake occurred at 8:00 am local time. The American Geological Center says that a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan this morning near the east coast of Taiwan, while the depth was recorded at 18 kilometers.

Authorities in Taiwan issued a tsunami warning via text message, “alerting people in coastal areas to be alert and take extreme caution, and also warn of the dangerous posed by sudden surges of waves.”

Initially, the tremors were felt throughout Taiwan, but the aftershocks made the situation very serious.

After the earthquake, many areas of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, lost power, people are facing difficulties, citizens came out of their houses in fear due to the tremors of the earthquake, while many buildings were bent to one side.

Officials say that this earthquake is the most powerful earthquake in 25 years since the 1999 earthquake.

Recall that in September 1999, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Taiwan, killing approximately 2,400 people in the deadliest natural disaster in the island’s history.
