Through USAID, the US government organized Vice Chancellors’ Dialogue.
Vice Chancellors’ Dialogue organized with public sector universities as part of its five-year, $19 million Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA).
USAID top leadership shared their experiences working with HESSA, including reflections on best practices in academia, research, and governance learned during their US study tour, as well as ideas for making the program more demand-driven.
HESSA is being implemented in collaboration with 16 Pakistani public sector universities and other stakeholders, with a focus on improving universities’ capacity to deliver market-driven education and research in order to improve graduate employability.
This goal will be met through three components: improving leadership, governance, and management at Pakistani universities; increasing the relevance, quality, and accessibility of higher education; and improving support services for students throughout their lives.
“We are proud that our commitment to the education sector has helped lay the foundations for continued economic growth and development,” said Anne Flaker, Director of Education Office, USAID.
“The Higher Education Commission is collaborating closely with the US government to strengthen Pakistan’s higher education system and develop a cadre of expertise and leadership in research, policy making, capacity building, student services, and financial aid,” said Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission.
