Zahir Shah has not yet formally acknowledged the change. According to reports, the deputy chairman visited the NAB chief early in the day and returned later.
His resignation has been reported following the resignation of NAB Prosecutor General Justice (r) Syed Asghar Haider. Haider submitted his letter of resignation to the head of the anti-corruption body, citing personal reasons for his inability to carry on.
The term of Prosecutor General Syed Asghar Haider was set to expire in February 2024.
