Gaza and Israel Truce: Fourth and Final Day Nears Conclusion

Biden hope Gaza-Israel truce last until all hostages, are released.

If significant efforts were made to raise the number of Palestinian captives released by Israel, Gaza stated that it would like to prolong the ceasefire, which is now in its fourth day and the last day that had been agreed upon. Israel released 39 young Palestinian prisoners on Sunday, bringing the total number of captives released since the start of the truce to 117.

On Sunday, the International Committee of the Red Cross verified that the 13 Israelis, 3 Thais, and 1 Russian person had been successfully transported from Gaza, as reported by Hamas.

According to Biden, 4-year-old Abigail Edan, the hostage, has been detained since she saw her parents slaughtered by Hamas gunmen on October 7 during their raid into Israel.

At a press conference in the United States, Biden stated, “What she went through is unthinkable.”

According to Channel 13, Abigail was her route to the hospital for examinations. Carmel Edan, her grandfather, thanked Biden “for all the help he’s offered us,” telling Reuters he “simply could not believe” she had been returned.

The first truce in seven weeks, after Hamas massacred 1,200 people and kidnapped nearly 240 hostages back into Gaza, was reached last Thursday and will run for four days.

Israel launched a ground invasion in the north and shelled the enclave in retaliation for that onslaught. According to Gaza health authorities, there have been almost 14,800 Palestinian deaths and hundreds of thousands of displacements.

The release of the hostages was discussed between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Vice President Joe Biden on Sunday. Netanyahu stated that he would be in favor of prolonging the temporary ceasefire if it meant that 10 more prisoners would be released each day.
