PDM govt faces criticism as annual US report accuses PM Imran Khan.
According to a US research on global religious freedom on the topic of blasphemy published in Washington on Monday, several politicians insulted their political rivals using offensive religious speech last year. The year 2022 has covered in the year-end report.
As to the report, on September 13, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Party, Javed Latif, accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan of undermining Islamic fundamentalism by supporting the Ahmadiyya community while he was PM.
In a statement to international media, Javed Latif allegedly accused Imran Khan of pledging religious freedom to the Qadianis.
The report further stated that on September 7, JUIF leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman called Imran Khan a Qadiani supporter and Jewish agent in tweets. According to the report, the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf retaliated by accusing the government of spreading religious prejudice and hatred.
According to The USCIRF report police in Pakistan “at times killed, physically abused, or failed to protect members of religious minorities,”. The death sentence was still an option for those found guilty of blasphemy, and courts continued to enforce these rules.
The study also stated that no one has ever been put to death for blasphemy by the government.
