Conversely, the Petroleum Retailers Association has once more requested an augmentation in the profit margin for petrol sales.

In a letter sent to the Ministry of Finance, the Petroleum Dealers Association has justified the increase in the price of electricity, interest rate and Karachi Interbank Offered Rate, cost of labor, increase in franchise fee to increase the margin.

In the letter, the invasion of Iranian petroleum products was also cited as the cause of dealer loss; there is concern that if sales tax is reinstated and dealers’ margins are expanded, the price of petroleum products will rise to a record high.

It should be noted that earlier in September 2023 also, the dealers had increased the margin by Rs. 7 per liter and the dealer’s margin was increased from Rs. 1.65 to Rs. 8.65 per liter.
